SCRANTON, Pa.- The Catholic University field hockey team won their first conference game against Scranton 3-2 in a double overtime victory Saturday.
Jung scored the first goal of the game assisted by Bateman off of a deflection on a penalty corner from junior Carly Philbin. The goal was Jung's first career goal. Scranton responded with a goal at the end of the first half to tie the game 1-1.
Waite scored the second goal for the Cardinals assisted by Schied off of a loose ball in front of the cage to take a 2-1 lead seven minutes into the second half. Scranton answered with a goal on a penalty corner with 20 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
After a tough fought first overtime, the game went into a second overtime where the Cardinals clinched the win off of a fast break goal from sophomore Meghan Shallow.
Catholic sophomore goalie Kim McGroary recorded nine saves in the 2-3 win over the Royals.
