Catholic Men’s Basketball Falls at DeSales, 76-63

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America played its third-straight game away from home to open the 2017-18 season and were topped by DeSales, 76-63. Senior Jay Howard posted game-highs with 22 points and nine rebounds, but the Bulldogs were able to shoot over 50-percent from the field to take the win.

DeSales built an early lead as they came out shooting strong and held an 11-point advantage at the break. Catholic fought back and were outscored by just two in the second stanza but could not cut back into the lead.

Howard was on the court for all 40 minutes and added four blocks, two steals and an assist to his line as he continues to play well at the start of this season's campaign.

Freshman Isaiah Godwin made his first career start and went 4-for-4 from downtown for 12 points with a rebound, an assist and a steal.

Junior Andre Mitchell rounded out the double-digit scorers for Catholic with 10 points along with two boards, an assist and a 3-pointer.

DeSales answered with three double-digit scorers of their own, led by forward Connor James who had team highs with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs shot 53.8-percent from the field to Catholic's 35.4 clip. They also outrebounded Catholic, 40-33.

The Cardinals will look to get back on track as they open Landmark Conference play this Saturday at Drew.
