Elizabethtown, Pa. — The Catholic University of America men's basketball team posted a 52-point second half as they overcame Elizabethtown on the road, 84-73. The Cardinals were led by a second-straight 30-point game by senior Jay Howard as the team overcame an 11-point deficit.
Elizabethtown ended the first half hot for a nine-point advantage but after scoring the first basket of the second stanza, Catholic went on a 16-2 run to take the lead and never look back.
Howard, the reigning Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, went 10-of-15 from the field and from the line and added a game-high eight rebounds and two blocks. He was one of four Cardinals in double-figure points.
Junior Jimmy Golaszewski was second on the team and in the contest with 19 points and added a full line with five 3-pointers, six rebounds and five assists.
Catholic was locked in offensively as the Cardinals shot 50-percent from both the field and from the arc with 11 triples. They also only turned the ball over six times.
Elizabethtown boasted two 19-point scorers but the Catholic defense was able to clamp down in the second with seven steals and four blocks.
The Cards wrap up a two-game road swing this Saturday when they face off against Moravian at 2 p.m.
