WASHINGTON - Freshman Matt Mahon of The Catholic University of America men's swimming & diving team earned Landmark Athlete of the Week honors guiding the Cardinals to two league victories over the weekend.
Mahon took the top spot in four freestyle events over the course of the weekend. In a showdown between the top two Landmark teams, Catholic topped Scranton as Mahon took first place in the both on the sprint freestyle events. He won the 50-free in 22.74 seconds and later led the 100-free in 49.31 seconds.
On Sunday versus Marywood, the rookie took on the mid-distance freestyle events winning the 200-free in 1:47.73 and the 500-free in 5:05.42. Mahon also anchored Catholic's first-place freestyle relays in both meets.
"Matt is off to a terrific start for us this season," said head coach Paul Waas. "He's working hard and I can't wait to see where he is by the end of the year."
The Cardinals are set to host NCAA Division II opponent Barton College on Saturday, November 4, at 1 p.m.
