SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic University men's track and field team were led by a strong group of freshmen at the SU Invitational, hosted by Susquehanna University, on Saturday.
The freshmen recorded four personal records on the track, led by freshman Patrick Maxwell who posted two personal records. Maxwell placed sixth in the 400m (53.21) and 11th in the 200m (24.16 seconds). Paul Gillett set a personal record in the mile with an impressive 5:01.23, which breaks his previous record by ten seconds. Lastly, Luke LaRosa set a 3.75m personal record in the pole vault, placing ninth overall.
The men also saw top ten performances form their strong junior class. Junior Dillon Frawley recorded a 3.90m mark in the pole vault to place eighth. While junior Cosmo Pirozzi had another great performance in the mile run with a second place finish (4:30.12). In the 800m, junior Joseph LaPointe placed seventh with a time of 2:02.13.
"The freshman men had really great performances from a double PR from Patrick Maxwell in the 200 and 400, a 10-second PR from Paul Gillett in the mile and almost a foot and a half PR in the pole vault from Luke LaRosa," said Director Steve Rahn. "They are performing their best at the right part of the season and look to continue that success next week at champs."
Catholic will return to action next Saturday, February 22 at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships.
