TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's golf freshman Mary Colella was named Landmark Conference Women's Golf Athlete of the Week on Monday, becoming the first player in program history to earn the conference's top weekly honor.
Colella shot a school-record 81 in the opening round of the Greene Turtle Invitational hosted by Shenandoah at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. She shaved seven strokes off her previous low of 88 and finished the tournament with a program-best 36-hole total of 167.
Colella has two top-10 finishes this season and leads the team with an 86.75 average.
The Cardinals had a strong showing at the Greene Turtle Invitational, finishing fourth with a team score of 696.
Catholic returns to action on Saturday and Sunday at the Revolutionary Classic at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club.
