TOWSON, Md. - For the second time this season, Catholic University women's track & field seniors Andrea Galeano and Kiera Lyons have been named Landmark Conference Athletes of the Week after impressive performances at last weekend's DIII Invitational at the Armory Track in New York City.
Head Coach Steve Rahn and his team placed seventh out of about 40 Division III teams on Friday with important point contributions from his two seniors. Galeano won the women's weight throw with the mark of 15.03m and placed seventh in the shot put (10.58m) to earn field points for the Cardinals.
Lyons took the top spot for gold in the 3000m with a time of 10:25.84, beating her own personal record by 15 seconds. Not only does it mark the fastest time in the Landmark Conference this season, but it sets a Catholic school indoor record for the 3000m event.
The senior from Harwood, Md. also ran the last leg of the women's distance medley relay, joining freshman Paige Wilderotter, junior Grace Boras, and sophomore Victoria Carlini to capture silver with a time of 12:59.74. Their time marks the fastest in the Landmark Conference this season and the 15th fastest in the nation. The medley relay time falling under 13 minutes marks a new school indoor record dating back to the 1980s.
Lyons previously earned the honor on January 28 after her fourth-place finish in the 3000m amongst Division I competition at the Patriot Games at George Mason. Galeano's first field athlete of the week award came on December 10 after winning silver in the shot put event at the Holiday Meet hosted by Haverford College.
Catholic is back in action for the Larry Sharp Memorial Invitational this Sunday, February 10 at Hagerstown Community College.
