Lyons Cracks Top-20 at NCAA Regionals

Newport News, Va. — Senior Kiera Lyons finished 19th overall at the 2017 NCAA South/Southeast Regional Cross Country Championship for The Catholic University of America on Saturday at Christopher Newport University.

Lyons sped her way to a new personal record of 22:26.8 as she averaged a 6:01.1 mile. She was able to hold off Emory's Abby Durfee by exactly one second to earn All-Region accolades.

Rookie runner Tara Thornton finished 116th in the 240-person field as she finished with a time of 24:41.4. Just behind her was sophomore Alex Filiault who finished in 24:48-flat and 123rd.

Catholic finished 19th against 34 other teams competing at the 2017 Regional.
