WASHINGTON, D.C- The Catholic University women's cross country team has reached its highest ever regional ranking in program history. They have been selected as the No. 6 team in the D3 South/Southeast Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Cardinals have moved up in the rankings from No. 8 following a second place finish at the 30th Annual Don Cathcart Invitational in Salisbury, Md. Senior Kiera Lyons led the team with a time of 22:35.69, which marks the fastest time in the Landmark Conference this season. She was also recognized as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
"The women had another incredible meet at Salisbury," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Steve Rahn. "We rested a few but the remaining of the team had a great showing. While it's nice to be recognized and ranked for the work they've put into the season, we'll continue to stay focused and have fun."
Catholic has a bye week but will return to competition on Saturday, October 13 at the Hood Open in Frederick, Md.
