Salisbury, Md. - No. 19 The Catholic University of America baseball team suffered its first loss of the year with a 3-1 result at Salisbury University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals recorded five hits during the event as junior Bailey Lewis went 2-of-4, including a double in the fourth inning, and sophomore Christian Jones along with seniors Jack Hennessy and Brennan Cotter each added one.
Salisbury made their way onto the scoreboard early as the Sea Gulls brought two home in the second and another run across the plate in the third.
Trailing 3-0, with Hennessy in scoring position, Cotter drilled an RBI-single to left field for Catholic's lone run of the event. The Cardinals looked to rally in the ninth but left two runners stranded to close out the game.
The Catholic defense registered three double plays while Cotter and O'Hagan recorded seven putouts apiece. The Cardinals' pitching staff dished out six strikeouts as sophomore Ross Dean threw for 2.2 innings and was charged with the loss.
Catholic, now 11-1 overall, is set to open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, March 17 with a doubleheader against Moravian College. First pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m.
