WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University field hockey head coach Heidi Lewis recently graduated from the 2018 NCAA Women Coaches Academy class #46 that was held in Englewood, Colorado at the Hilton Denver Inverness.
The NCAA Women Coaches Academy, hosted in partnership between WeCOACH and the NCAA, is a 4-day educational training available to NCAA coaches of all experience levels and is designed for women coaches who are ready to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success.
"Attending the NCAA Women Coaches Academy was one of the best professional development decisions I have ever made," said Lewis. "Spending four days in a supportive and positive environment, learning how to increase my effectiveness as a coach was fantastic. I really enjoyed spending time around other female coaches across all sports and NCAA Divisions. The depth and breadth of people's experiences was invaluable."
In December, 45 female coaches of all experience levels and sports from NCAA Division I, II and III were selected to participate in the NCAA Women Coaches Academy.
Lewis was joined by fellow Landmark Conference member, Kristen Gillis, who is the head field hockey coach at Moravian.
"One of the great things about the WCA is the focus on providing information that you can use both short and long term," added Lewis. "I've started to integrate ideas on communication and team culture into spring planning. Long term, I look forward to using what we learned about Title IX history, communication techniques, core values and managing relationships to make our program even stronger."
The next two sessions for the NCAA Women Coaches Academy are May 29-June 1 and June 19-22 in Denver, Colorado.
