Anderson's Second Hat Trick Leads Cardinals Over Gators

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University field hockey team dominated Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday at Cardinal Stadium, 13-1. Nine different Cardinals netted goals, including senior forward Katie Anderson totaled her second hat trick of the season.

Catholic (11-7) scored its most goals in a game since Sept. 6, 2015 when it defeated Hendrix, 13-0. The program record for goals in a game is 16 set in 1998 against Trinity (DC). 

Sophomore forward Hannah Bateman and junior midfielder Kelly Cancelmo each had two goals.

Catholic scored quickly as Bateman redirected a pass from junior midfielder Grace Olson just 4:08 into the first quarter. Five minutes later, junior forward Anna Baffone scored her second goal of the season.

The Cardinals totaled five goals in the second quarter with tallies from senior forward Alexandra DiFlorio, two from Cancelmo and one each from Anderson and Bateman. Bateman also had two assists while Olson picked up her second of the game.

Olson and Anderson each scored third quarter goals while senior defender Carly Philbin and junior midfielder Meghan Shallow posted assists. 

Catholic scored four goals in the fourth quarter as Anderson, sophomore forward Katie Murphy, junior forward Jess Waite and sophomore midfielder Katie Cusumano each found the back of the net. Sophomore defender Ryan Doran and freshman forward Gracie Burford each collected and assist for the first point of their career. 

The Cardinals host a Landmark Conference contest versus Elizabethtown on Saturday, Nov. 2 on Senior Day.
