Huerter Leads Cardinals Past Misericordia at CBI, 75-61

LATROBE, Pa. - Catholic University men's basketball senior Thomas Huerter scored a game-high 16 points while senior Collin Hartmann totaled his first career double double as the Cardinals posted a 75-61 victory over Misericordia Saturday in the Catholic Basketball Invitational hosted by Saint Vincent.

Catholic (3-6) has won two-straight and back-to-back road games for the first time since Nov. 27, 2016.

Huerter finished two points shy of his season high set against Messiah in the season opener and also added three blocks. Hartmann totaled 14 points and 10 rebounds and the duo combined for eight of the team's 11 three-pointers, going 8-for-16 with four each.

Leading 24-20, the Cardinals closed the first half on a 20-8 run over the final 6:28 to take a 16-point lead at the half, 44-28.

Catholic led by as many as 26 in the second half, 66-40, following a layup by junior Justin Pryor with 10:05 remaining. He was one of five Cardinals with at least eight points as he finished with nine.

Senior Riley Hayes finished with 12 points and six rebounds in his first game since Nov. 23, 2019 after missing the last three due to injury. Freshman Jack Kouba had eight points and five rebounds.

Catholic will play the winner between Immaculata and host Saint Vincent on Sunday at 3 p.m.
