BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Catholic University men's basketball senior Riley Hayes totaled his fourth double double of the season while junior Justin Pryor had a career-high 15 points in a 63-62 loss at Moravian in a Landmark Conference contest Saturday at Johnston Hall.
The Cardinals (4-9, 0-2 LC) dropped their fourth-straight road game in the series as they are 5-8 at Johnston Hall compared to 11-1 at Franny Murray Court.
Hayes posted his second-straight double double with 17 points and a career-high 21 rebounds, his second game with at least 20 rebounds this season. He totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds in the first half as Catholic held a 32-30 halftime lead.
The Greyhounds (7-6, 2-0 LC) outscored Catholic 6-2 over the final 28 seconds, scoring all six points at the free throw line where they were a perfect 6-for-6.
Catholic took a 60-57 lead with 1:35 remaining following two free throws from senior Collin Hartmann. After the Cardinals missed the front end of a one-and-one, Moravian's C.J. Barnes was fouled on the rebound and hit both free throws to give the Hounds their first lead since the 17:51 mark of the second half, 61-60.
The Cards went back in front with 12 seconds to play on a jumper by Pryor before a foul sent Barnes back to the line where he sank both for the second-straight trip to put Moravian ahead with five seconds left.
Following a timeout, Catholic had to go the lenghth of the court for an attempt to tie or win the game, but the team could not get a shot off before the final buzzer, sealing the win for the Greyhounds.
Hartmann finished with 13 points while senior Thomas Huerter added eight points and four rebounds.
The Cardinals return home to face Juniata on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
