Cardinals Place Fifth in Outdoor Season Debut

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Catholic University men's track and field team placed fifth overall at the Goucher College Classic on Saturday.

On the track, Catholic was led by junior Cosmo Pirozzi. Pirozzi won the men's 800m with a time of 2:01.59. He also finished fourth in the 1500m to score points for the Cards. Junior Joseph LaPointe followed just behind Pirozzi in the 800m, placing second (2:05.71).

Sophomore Mike Dreitlein had a big day, making the finals in the 110m hurdles with 17.22 personal best to place eighth overall.

Freshman Patrick Maxwell placed eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 24.76. He was also joined by senior Derek Chapey, LaPointe, and Pirozzi in the men's 4x400m relay to place fifth.

In the field events, rookie CeeJa Beckett placed second in the long jump with a 6.47m mark. Sophomore Joseph Galassi also had an impressive season debut, placing fourth in the men's javelin with a mark of 47.88m.

Catholic will return to action on Saturday, March 30 at the Delaware Classic.
