BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Catholic University women's basketball senior Sydney Poindexter totaled 11 points and nine rebounds while freshman Erin Thompson added nine points in a 60-51 loss at Moravian in a Landmark Conference contest Saturday at Johnston Hall.
The Cardinals (10-3, 1-1 LC) lost for the first time in five road games this season.
Catholic trailed 28-24 with 4:05 remaining in the second quarter following a layup by freshman Rachel Bussanich. However, that would be the team's final basket until the 7:21 mark of the third quarter as the Greyhounds used a 13-0 run to build a 17-point lead.
Moravian (8-5, 1-1 LC) scored the last eight points of the first half before scoring the first five points of the second, holding the Cardinals scoreless over a span of 5:09 to take a 41-24 advantage.
The Greyhounds stretched their lead to as many as 18 before Catholic used an 18-7 run to cut its deficit to seven, 53-46 with 4:19 to play on a layup by freshman Erin Doherty. Doherty scored seven of the Cards final nine points.
That would be as close as the Cardinals would get as they were just 2-of-8 from the floor with two turnovers over the final 2:56 while Moravian made 4-of-6 free throw attempts.
Poindexter just missed her fifth double double of the season. Senior Mollie Reynolds had six points, four rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes off the bench in her third game back from injury while sophomore Maggie Bednarek added four points, two assists and four steals.
Catholic travels to Juniata on Wednesday for a 7 p.m., tipoff inside Memorial Gymnasium.
