SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Catholic University women's basketball freshman Erin Thompson scored a career-high 16 points as the Cardinals won their fourth-straight Landmark Conference contest with a 64-52 victory over Susquehanna Saturday at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
Catholic (13-3, 4-1 LC) posted its seventh win in the last nine meetings against the River Hawks improved to 6-1 on the road this season.
Thompson was the only Cardinal to score in double figures. In seven games in the new year, she has scored at least nine points four times.
Susquehanna (11-6, 3-3 LC) led 8-7 with 5:28 remaining in the first quarter before an 8-0 run by the Cardinals, capped by a layup from Thompson, put them in front for good with 3:20 to play.
After the River Hawks scored the opening basket of the second quarter, Catholic responded by tallying the next 10 points, including four from senior Mollie Reynolds and three from freshman Rachel Bussanich to take a 15-point advantage, 29-14.
A 6-0 run by the Cardinals late in the third quarter gave them their largest lead of the game with 1:10 remaining, 53-33.
Catholic scored 28 points off of 30 Susquehanna turnovers and 30 points in the paint.
The Cardinals look to extend their conference win-streak to five when they head to Goucher on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
