TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's basketball senior Sydney Poindexter scored a game-high 21 points as the Cardinals posted a 77-54 Landmark Conference road win over Goucher Wednesday night at the Decker Center.
Catholic (15-3, 6-1 LC), who is receiving votes in both the WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll and d3hoops.com women's Top 25, won its 19th consecutive game against the Gophers while improving its record to 7-1 in road games this season.
Poindexter posted her third 20-point game this season and the fourth of her career. She scored seven points in the first quarter as the Cardinals built a 21-6 lead. They scored 16 of the game's first 20 points, capped by a three-pointer from sophomore Maggie Bednarek with 2:55 remaining.
During its five-game win streak, Catholic has outscored its opponents 99-41 in the first quarter while holding them to single digits and scoring 21 at least three times.
Bednarek also gave Catholic its largest lead of the game at 72-42 on a layup with 5:10 to play in the fourth quarter. She finished with 12 points off the bench while freshman Samantha McCarter added nine.
The Cardinals' five starters combined for 52 of the team's 77 points. Sophomore Amanda Johnson had 11 to go along with nine rebounds while freshman Erin Thompson totaled eight points and five assists.
Catholic returns home to face Moravian on Saturday looking to avenge its only conference loss this season, a 60-51 defeat on January 11 . Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
