WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team has been selected No. 3 in the Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Cardinals trail The University of Scranton in the top spot and Susquehanna in the No. 2 seat.
The Cards return 16 members of their 2017 squad back to the team this year, including junior forward Elizabeth Johnson, who received All-Landmark First Team honors last season. A strong sophomore class that accounted for fifteen goals in the last campaign returns while head Coach J.P. Sousa adds nine rookies to the roster for the upcoming season.
Catholic begin its quest for another Landmark championship Friday, August 31, in a home match against York College at 4 p.m.
The team competes in the annual Mary Washington Classic tournament in Fredericksburg, Virginia in the second week of the season. The Cardinals take on Berry College (9/8) and Huntingdon College (9/9) in the tournament.
Landmark Conference competition begins at home for the Cardinals as they take on defending Landmark champion Scranton on Saturday, September 22 at 4 p.m. In their last regular season match of the season, the Cards host Elizabethtown on Saturday, October 27 at 4 p.m. The match features two of last year's conference semifinalist teams.
The Landmark Conference playoffs are slated to kick off Wednesday, October 31, for the semifinal round, followed by the championship on Saturday, November 3.
