TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University women's track and field team was recognized for their accomplishments this season as the Cardinals earned one major Landmark Conference award and seven All-Conference selections.
Senior Andrea Galeano earned Field Athlete of the Year as well as All-Landmark First and Second Team honors after winning gold in the weight throw and silver in the shot put this past Saturday at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championship. Galeano threw 17.19m in the women's weight throw, a mark that ranks her eighth among all of Division III. The Stratford, Conn. native then proceeded to throw an 11.28m personal record in the women's shot put.
Senior Kiera Lyons earned two All-Landmark selections after a big day at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championship. Lyons earned an All-Landmark Second Team selection after placing second overall in the women's mile with a time of 5:20.03. Her All-Landmark First Team honor came after an impressive performance running the anchor of the women's DMR.
Lyons was joined by freshman Paige Wilderotter, junior Grace Boras, and sophomore Victoria Carlini as All-Landmark First Team selections after a first-place finish with the second-fastest DMR time in the South/Southeast Region (12:49.64). Their time also crushed the championship record by 7.45 seconds to become the third fastest time in Landmark Conference history.
The Cardinals are back in action next weekend at the Tufts Finals Qualifier meet on Saturday, March 2.
