TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's volleyball sophomore Maria Gonzalez was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Cardinals to a perfect 4-0 record at the Roue 42 Classic hosted by Eastern Mennonite and Bridgewater last weekend.
It is the first career honor for Gonzalez and the first for Catholic since Michelle Seals earned the honor on Sept. 26, 2016.
Gonzalez was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Route 42 Classic after the Cardinals (4-0) were the only team out of 10 to finish undefeated. She was one of just two players to start all four matches for Catholic and one of only four to play in all 13 sets while totaling 107 assists for an average of 8.23 per set. She also totaled 10 service aces for an average of 0.77 per set and finished second on the team with 33 digs.
In a 3-1 win over Lynchburg, Gonzalez had 35 assists, two short of her career high.
Catholic returns to action on Wednesday when the Cardinals host Gettysburg in their home opener on Franny Murray Court beginning at 7 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available at www.CatholicAthletics.com.
