TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's volleyball sophomore Patricia Martinez was named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team on Tuesday while freshman Caroline Kelly was named to the Second Team. Martinez earns her second-straight all-conference selection.
The Cardinals, who finished the season 19-13 after advancing to the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Volleyball Championship, have had 10 All-Landmark Conference First Team selections, the second-most in the league since its inception in 2007.
Martinez led the Landmark Conference with 444 kills and an average of 3.79 kills per set. She totaled 18 double doubles this season in kills and digs, finishing third on the team with 319 kills. She had 10 or more kills in 26 of the team's 32 matches while totaling 20 or more five times with a career-high 27 in a five-set win over Scranton on Oct. 27 that secured the third-seed in the conference tournament for the Cardinals.
Kelly ranked second in the Landmark Conference with 603 digs, but led the league with an average of 5.11 per set. She was one of just two players to surpass 600 and the only one to average at least five digs per set. She had at least 10 digs in all but one of her 31 matches played, totaling 20 or more 13 times and 30 or more three times. She had a career-high 33 digs in her home debut against Gettysburg on September 5.
Catholic advanced to the semifinals of the Landmark Conference championship for the eighth time in the 12-year history of the league.
