Marino Leads Women to Second Place at Cardinal Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - With 47 points, the Catholic University women's cross country team finished second at the Cardinal Classic, its first home meet since 2013.

Mary Washington finished first with 33 points while Landmark Conference rivals Moravian (77 points) and Juniata (79 points) finished third and fourth, respectively.

"The women had an amazing race from top to bottom," said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Steve Rahn. "The upperclassmen led the way and helped our freshmen in their first career 6k. Place second against tough conference and regional opponents fairs well for the rest of the season."

The Cardinals placed three runners in the top-10, led by sophomore Hannah Marino who finished second with a time of 25:01.3. Sophomore Paige Wilderotter followed close behind in fourth with a mark of 25:17.7 while senior Marykate Higley crossed the finish line in 10th (25:57.7).

"It was also great to see many alumni come back to support the program and watch them run in the Jerry McGee Alumni Mile," added Rahn. "I hope to see them all again at the conference championships."

Catholic returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Winchester, Virginia at the Hornet Harrier Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University.
